JUNG HOSEOK · 정호석 · "HOBI" · MAIN DANCER / RAPPER OF BTS
The boy from an underground street-dance crew became the first Korean artist to headline the Lollapalooza main stage — and then went back to the street to teach. This is the Deathless Legends Playbook: his story reverse-engineered into a bilingual system for authenticity, reach, and positivity practiced as a discipline.
Chapter 01 · The Underground
Before the sold-out domes, there was a boy in Gwangju named Jung Hoseok, dancing in an underground crew called Neuron. The floor came first. Everything else is range built on that floor.
Jung Hoseok trained as a street dancer in his hometown crew Neuron, winning local competitions long before he was a "K-pop idol." Dance was never a costume — it was the mother tongue.
He joined Big Hit as a trainee and debuted with BTS in 2013. The kid known for popping and freestyle became the group's main dancer — the engine of its choreography.
He chose the stage name j-hope — to be hope for others. Years later he'd make that literal: an EP and a docuseries called Hope on the Street, returning to dance roots to lift the next crews up.
Chapter 02 · Inside the Seven
In a group of extraordinary talents, J-Hope's job was motion and morale — the choreography anchor and the mood-lifter. Both are disciplines, not accidents.
He carried the hardest choreography and a distinct rap voice across BTS's rise — Dark & Wild, Wings, Love Yourself, Map of the Soul, Be — through record-breaking Billboard runs and global stadium tours.
Bandmates and fans describe him as the group's sunshine — the one who sets the emotional key. Positivity, done on purpose, every day, is a leadership skill. That is the thesis of this Playbook.
Chapter 03 · Solo
His solo path is a study in reinventing without erasing — expanding range while the roots stay visible in every frame.
His debut mixtape. The next year "Chicken Noodle Soup" (feat. Becky G) made him the first BTS member to land a solo hit on the Billboard Hot 100 — a nod straight back to street-dance culture.
His first studio album confronted his shadow to free his hope (the Pandora's box myth). Weeks later he became the first South Korean artist to headline the Lollapalooza main stage.
After completing military service (discharged October 2024), his EP + docuseries went back to street dance — filming with crews worldwide. Roots, revisited on purpose.
His first solo world tour ran Feb–June 2025 across 33 shows on two continents — roughly half a million fans and a reported ~$84.7M gross — plus a concert film in cinemas that November.
Post-service singles stretched the palette: "Sweet Dreams" (feat. Miguel), "Mona Lisa," "Killin' It Girl" (feat. GloRilla), "LV Bag" (feat. Pharrell Williams) and "Spaghetti" with LE SSERAFIM.
Named an individual Louis Vuitton House Ambassador in 2023 — praised for upbeat energy, precise choreography, and creative direction. The street kid, in the maison.
The Core · Deathless Principles
Each principle is drawn from a real move in his career — then handed to you as something you can practice this week.
Returning to where you started is not going backward — it's reloading the source of your reach. J-Hope keeps street dance in the frame at every altitude. Name your "street floor" and refuse to abandon it.
His brightness isn't a mood — it's a chosen, repeated practice. Treat optimism like a rep count: something you do on the flat days precisely because you don't feel it.
The ease you see on stage is buried reps. Master fundamentals so completely that they disappear into instinct, leaving room for expression.
Jack in the Box faced the shadow on purpose — because hope only escapes once the lid is lifted. Name the fear; it becomes fuel instead of a leash.
He sets the emotional key for everyone around him. Energy is contagious and it starts with one person choosing to give it first. Be that person on purpose.
Hope on the Street was a mentor's move — going back to the dance floors that raised him to raise others. Reach earns its meaning when you send the ladder back down.
Pop, hip-hop, R&B, luxury runways — the range keeps widening while the roots stay legible. Growth isn't replacing who you were; it's adding rooms to the same house.
